Legend comes alive as 2010 is the 750th Anniversary of Kublai Khan becoming ruler of the Mongol Empire and Pobjoy Mint has produced a very special coin on behalf of the Isle of Man Treasury.

The coin is in the shape of a ‘Paiza’ tablet (an ancient form of currency) and features a full portrait of Kublai Khan with the traditional decoration of a dragon around him. The obverse of the coin shows a fine effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank- Broadley FRBS along with an interpretation of the legendary city of Xanadu.

The stunning coin is presented in an antique looking box with a piece of silk cord for the ‘wearer’ and there is an inscription on the box granting ‘permission’ to use the Paiza.
